Port Blair, Apr 05: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has ordered the rollback of increase in the passenger and cargo fares in vehicle ferry services in the harbour sector for 2013-14. Accordingly, the fares of passenger/cargo ferries will stand as notified last year and there will be no increase in fares of passenger/cargo ferry vehicle for the year 2013-14. The direction came in view of Shipping Department recently implementing the enhancement in the passenger and cargo fares in vehicle ferry services for 2013-14.
Accordingly, the fares for vehicle/cargo in vehicle ferry service for two wheelers will remain at Rs 15/- and not Rs 23/-, three wheelers at Rs 45/- and not Rs 70/- and three wheelers with load (cargo auto) at be Rs 100/- and not Rs 150/-. The fare for four wheelers/LV without load at Rs 90/- and not Rs 160/-, four wheeler/LV with load at Rs 270/- and not Rs 480/-. The fares for heavy vehicle without load at Rs 200/- and not Rs 400/-.Heavy vehicles with load will be Rs 600/- and not Rs 1200/-. For Bulldozer/Hitachi/Road roller and Hitachi with truck, the fare will be Rs 1200/- and not Rs 2400/-. Similarly, the two wheeler concession passes will be kept at Rs 300/- i.e. as existing on 31 March 2013, and not Rs 360/-.
Various political parties had also requested the Lt Governor for rolling back the increase of fares of passengers/cargo ferries in the interest and welfare of the people of the Islands.
