Sri Vijaya Puram, May 04: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands through a written letter has urges the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands the immediate convening of the Administrator’s Advisory Council meeting, a vital institutional mechanism established under the Andaman & Nicobar Administration Notification dated 24th June, 2010.
The Advisory Council, chaired by the Lt. Governor and convened by the Chief Secretary, is mandated to meet every three months to provide guidance on matters concerning the Union Territory. This platform ensures collaborative governance by facilitating consultation with public representatives and other members, particularly in the absence of a legislative assembly in the Islands.
It is a matter of concern that no meeting of the Advisory Council has been held since 2018, when it last convened in Port Blair on 11th November 2017. Over the past eight years, the absence of these meetings has limited opportunities for meaningful dialogue and consultation, resulting in decisions being made without the valuable input of the Council’s members. This has led to growing discontent among the residents of the Islands, who rely on their elected representatives to voice their aspirations and concerns.
The MP requests the Lt. Governor’s kind intervention to urgently convene a meeting of the Administrator’s Advisory Council, enabling a collective discussion on critical issues affecting the welfare and development of the Union Territory.
