Sri Vijaya Puram, April 20:Sri Vijaya Puram, once admired for its organized cityscape and greenery, is now battling a new menace — uncontrolled poster pasting across public spaces. The rampant defacement caused by thousands of unauthorized posters pasted on walls, Bus stands, and outside college campuses etc has not only marred the visual appeal of the city but also raised serious questions about law enforcement and civic discipline.
As per municipal regulations, pasting posters in the city is strictly illegal unless prior permission is obtained from the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC). However, in the current situation, there appears to be no clarity on how many of these poster campaigns have received legitimate clearance from the concerned authorities.
“This kind of unchecked activity is defacing the city and is completely unacceptable, especially at a time when the administration is working towards making Andaman a Smart City,” said a concerned resident. “It’s disappointing to see how such actions are being ignored.”
In the past, a former Municipal Secretary had taken a firm stand against such violations and had even gone as far as filing FIRs against individuals and groups found guilty of pasting posters without permission. That precedent, citizens believe, should be upheld and enforced by the current administration.
City officials have so far remained silent on the issue, but civic activists and residents are urging SVPMC to act swiftly by identifying the culprits and taking strict action to discourage further violations. “If this goes unchecked, we fear the entire city will turn into a poster board,” remarked another local citizen.
The ongoing poster menace has highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive awareness and enforcement campaign. With the city’s image at stake and Smart City efforts underway, residents hope the SVPMC will implement strict measures and restore the city’s visual dignity.
Until then, Sri Vijaya Puram continues to struggle under layers of unauthorized messaging, as citizens wait for a cleaner and more responsible urban environment.
