Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services promotes Animal Husbandry Activities for livelihood generation of rural farmers. Animal Husbandry ventures contribute to improved income, nutrition and employment opportunities.
Backyard Poultry keeping & Piggery provides a significant source of income for the rural household. To encourage and support the farmers piglets and chicks are supplied through the Departmental farms. Today piglets of ‘Ghungroo’ breed were distributed to the farmers of Wandoor village by the Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan. ‘Ghungroo’ is an indigenous pig of West Bengal well known for its high prolificacy and adaptability to low input production system. Day old vanaraja chicks were also distributed to the farmers of Wandoor Village. The distribution was carried out in the presence of Shri Adhir Das, Gram Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Wandoor, Shri Uttam Roy, Up Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor and Smti Sukhalata Pahar, Member. Speaking on the occasion, the Gram Pradhan expressed his happiness and appreciated the efforts of the Department.
