Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 30: The much-anticipated Inter-Unit T-20 League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament – COMMANDANT’S CUP, organized by the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) at Headquarters, Port Mout, concluded with a thrilling final match under floodlights. The tournament, which commenced on March 10, 2025, saw participation from 10 teams representing various units of the A&N Police, including PHQ, IRBn (2), PMT, CID, APU, PTS, PMF, Police Radio, and South Andaman (District).
A key highlight of the tournament was that all matches were played under floodlights, enhancing the excitement and enthusiasm of players and spectators alike. The event witnessed an exceptional display of sportsmanship, agility, and commitment from all participating teams. After weeks of intense competition, the final showdown was held between CID and PHQ, culminating in an electrifying contest won by CID Unit. Batting first, CID set a target of 115 runs, all out in 19.5 overs. In response, PHQ fought valiantly, scoring 107 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, but ultimately fell short.
The grand finale and concluding ceremony were graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, as the Chief Guest, along with Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP (IRBn), Mr. A. Koan, IPS, DIGP (PR), Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Commandant (IRBn), and other senior officers of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. Their presence and words of encouragement greatly motivated the participants. The Commandant’s Cup 2025 Trophy was handed over by the DGP, A&N Islands, to the winning team, CID Unit. Apart from this PC/C.P. Yadav of PHQ was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and HC/Brijt of CID earned the Man of the Match title for his stellar performance in the tournament. PC/Mohd Azharuddin was recognized as the Best Batsman of the Tournament for amassing 216 runs throughout the competition, while PC/C.P. Yadav also secured the title of Best Bowler of the Tournament for claiming 18 wickets.
Addressing the gathering, DGP, A&N Islands, congratulated IRBn for meticulously organizing the tournament and praised the players for their dedication and unwavering spirit. He emphasized such sporting events promote camaraderie and teamwork—essential qualities for police personnel in their line of duty.
The successful culmination of Commandant’s Cup 2025 tournament under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP, A&N Islands and Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP (IRBn) was a true celebration of sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork, setting a high benchmark for future sporting events within the Andaman & Nicobar Police.
