Port Blair, Mar 28: Port Blair town is facing acute water scarcity due to the ongoing construction work for raising the height of Dhanikhadi Dam. On one hand PBMC promotes the judicial use of water through its advertisements in newspapers and other media and on the other hand there are several leakages in the pipelines of PBMC all over the town. It is believed that leakages in PBMC is more than 30 percent, which means if these leakages are taken care off then city’s all water problem will get solved in not time.
The example of such a leakage can be seen near the DMK’s headquarter where the leakage in the pipeline of PBMC, results in wastage of a lot of water everyday. The pipeline leakage near DMK’s Headquarter (opposite Dr. B R Ambedkar Auditorium) junction has become a popular destination for the auto drivers to wash their vehicles. Everyday nearly 25-30 autos are washed with the water that leaks out. Further the shopkeepers of nearby areas are also using the same water for their odd needs.
This is not the only place from where the water from PBMC’s pipeline leaks, there are several other places where there are even more serious cracks that needs immediate attention to stop the wastage of water.
The leakages in the pipelines of PBMC if repaired will give some relief to the common people of Port Blair as they are accounting for each drop of water these days.
The authorities responsible for the maintenance of the pipelines should look into the matter and immediately repair the pipeline in order to give little relief to the common people of Port Blair.
