Port Blair, Mar 28: The Coast Guard Region (A&N), as part of Coastal Security Initiative conducted third Mass Awareness Drive for the fishing community on 26 March 13 in association with the Department of Fisheries at 02 places viz. Sholbay & Betapur. In addition special briefing for forest officials at Mayabunder and Diglipur was conducted on 22 Mar & 25 Mar 13 respectively and for DSS staff including master & crew of DSS vessels at DSS Conference Hall on 26 Mar 13. During these Special Interaction and Briefings, a total of 250 fishermen, Forest officials and DSS staff members were sensitized.
This Awareness Drive and special briefings were conducted with an aim to spread awareness in run up to prepare for Coastal Security Exercise ‘Tatsuraksha” TSX -01/13 scheduled during 09-11 Apr 13. The main objective of this drive was to re-emphasize the responsibility of Fishing Community, Forest Department and Directorate of Shipping Services towards the Coastal Security setup. During Feb & Mar, total 21 Special Community Interaction programmes have been conducted by the Indian Coast Guard at various places across the islands, and approx 600 fishermen have been sensitized.
