Port Blair, Mar 25: Port Blair town in the recent past has witnessed many improvements in the parking facilities. The traffic branch of Andaman and Nicobar Police has done a commendable job by identifying different spots suitable for parking and getting those areas converted into proper parking areas.
Now, there are many prominent places where the parking facilities are proving to be a boon for the public but at some places the same parking areas, which were made for the public, are being misused by private businessmen, government departments and also tour operators, for their own needs.
The parking space provided in front of Govt. Petrol Pump is used by a driving school to park their cars permanently and no space is left for the general public to park their vehicles there. The parking space provided in front of the CID office is almost captured by Police Department to park Department’s own vehicles.
The parking area infornt of G B Pant Hospital remain jam-packed with Tourists Vehicles during Light and South Show every evening and hence general public do not find proper parking place, even during need.
Misuse by public parking place by business owners is totally unjustified. Government Departments, which have virtually captured public parking places, can shift their vehicles to other sites and parking made for public should be cleared and made available only for the general public. Hope the Traffic Department will take suitable action soon.
