Port Blair, Mar 19: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma along with a delegation of quarry operators of Middle Andaman met with the Lt Governor on 14th March, 2013 and requested for his permission to open quarry operation at Middle Andaman stating that due to non availability of Quarry operation, the developmental works of Middle Andaman have come to stand and still. He has also stated that as per the letter No: 46-39/DC/(M&MA)/QP/13/399 dt 15/22nd February, 2013, the Deputy Commissioner, NM Andaman has stated that nearly six sites having potential for quarry operation have been identified for quarry leases under cluster mining in terms of Rule 18 chapter IV of the said Rule and has requested for approval of the Administrator who is the competent authority for this
Stating that the quarry operators want to have the operation in their own land (which were mentioned in the letter), Sharma requested the Lt. Governor to allow those sites for the purpose quarry operation so that the developmental works of the area may start before arriving of the monsoon. The Administrator gave a patient hearing and assured to look into the matter.
