Port Blair, Mat 19: The Port Blair Municipal Council has launched a scheme for providing better civic amenities to the residents of the city with public participation. An awareness campaign “DO IT YOURSELF” for improving the present system of Solid Waste Management was organized on 16.03.2013 at Dairy Farm Community Hall.
The residents of Dairy Farm (Ward No.08) participated in the programme and they were educated on the need to co-operate with PBMC in management of waste. Most important aspect of this being door step collection and segregation at source.
Mr. P. B. Murugan Chairperson, PBMC was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He stressed on the importance of systematic solid waste management Mr. Rakesh Bali, Secretary, PBMC solicited public co-operation and not to throw garbage on the streets and nallahs etc and to keep their surroundings clean.
Dairy Farm Residents Association was also formed by Mr. Vijay Kumar Sr. Sanitary Inspector and Mr. Sudeep Singh Sanitary Inspector.
All the Ward Councillors, Various Departments and NGOs ANPCC, ANET, Clean City. Women’s Cooperative Society Union, religious leaders and school children attended the event.
On the occasion a multi media presentation on “Waste and Island Eco-System” was made by Ms. Tasneem Khan, Asst. Director, ANET educating the people as to how to dispose waste.
Mr. Rishikesh, Sr. Scientist of ANPCC also on management of plastic waste in a most acceptable manner. Mrs. P Bharti Councillor Ward No. 8 PBMC proposed the vote of thanks
