
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 27: The team of Police Station Humfrygunj and Police Marine Force (PMF), Wandoor Unit apprehended two (02) individuals involved in illegal wildlife trade and seized 370 kgs of protected Deer meat.
On 25/10/2024, the police personnel HC(S) (PMF)/Ramesh Mondal and PC/Nitesh Baidya of PS Humfrygunj were deployed for coastal patrolling duties at Wandoor area in connection with Coastal Security Exercise Sagar Kavach “SKV-02/24. During patrolling in the PMF FRP boat (ANP JAL) near the backside of Tarmugli Island they noticed an engine dinghy MV Akshita, registration number IND-AN-SA-MO-G1 moving in the direction of Twins Island. When they attempted to stop the dinghy, the occupants ignored their command and continued in the same direction. The team chased the dinghy and intercepted it near Jolly Buoy Island.
Upon inspection, it was found that it had a deep freezer and an unserviceable refrigerator on board filled with deer meat covered in ice. Subsequently, the dinghy was brought to Wandoor Forest Jetty, where the venison was weighed in the presence of independent witnesses and found to be weighing 370 kgs. Further, the dinghy was also seized and apprehended the individuals namely 1) Ashok Dutta (47), son of Mr. Anil Dutta, resident of Haddo, Sri Vijaya Puram and 2) Bishmoy Das (33), son of Mr. Bipul Das, resident of Diglipur and currently residing in Garacharma, Sri Vijaya Puram after completing all codal formalities.
Later, the seized venison meat, engine dinghy and apprehended individuals were handed over Forest officials for further legal action.
