Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 21: The A&N Police solemnly observed the National Police Commemoration Day on October 21st paying tribute to all the brave Police personnel who laid down their lives during the line of duty across the country.
In honour of the Martyrs a Commemoration day Parade was held at Parade Ground Police Lines, in which Mrs. Sindhu Pillai A, Inspector General of Police and other senior officers of A&N Police were present and participated in the wreath-laying ceremony. During the parade the IGP (ANI) read out the names of 216 Police personnel including Mrs. Leela Devi, Ex Home Guard of Andaman & Nicobar Police, to acknowledge and pay obeisance for the supreme sacrifice made by them. Besides, the families of our brave martyrs, the retired DySsP and Inspectors were also present for the event and paid homage to the brave souls.
Mrs. Sindhu Pillai A, IGP (ANI) speaking on the occasion emphasized the indispensable role of the Police in maintaining law and order and recognized the sacrifices made for the nation’s safety by honouring those heroes who selflessly gave their lives in the service of the nation.
October 21st is observed as Police Commemoration day to pay homage to the ten valiant Policemen who laid down their lives in an ambush laid by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh in the year 1959 and all other martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Further in order to acknowledge the sacrifice and bravery of the Indian Police personnel, a national memorial “Shaheed Vedi” has been established at the “Hot Springs” Ladakh, where every year, representatives from all the police forces across India gather to pay homage to the martyrs, honouring the courageous legacy.
In tribute to the fallen heroes, the Andaman & Nicobar Police will also conduct a series of events to observe Police Commemoration Day & Rasthriya Ekta Diwas over the next 10 days, culminating on October 31st. These events will include public awareness programs, community outreach, and memorial services across various units of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. The initiative aims to foster a closer connection between the police force and the community while honouring the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
