Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 15: Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre initiated a Seven days training/workshop programme on Plant Taxonomy (Identification, Nomenclature and Herbarium Technique) for M.Sc. (Botany) students impart technical skills on floristic study and conservation techniques on various groups of plants on 15.10.2024.
Mr. Ravi Horo, Addl. PCCF, Deptt. Of Environment & Forests, A & N Islands was the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony. In the felicitation address, Mr. Horo spoke about the significance of the programme and the importance of skills for Botany students as taxonomists and their role in conservation of biodiversity in the Islands. He also stated the best possible exposure to the knowledge and skills required to make a good Biodiversity Conservationists.
Dr. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Principal, JNRM was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Sharma emphasized upon the importance of this course. In his address asked students to work hard and be aware of bio-diversity.
Earlier, Regional Head Dr. Lal Singh welcomed the gathering and brief about Workshop and Learning Modules. Dr. Singh encouraged youths of these Islands to develop a skill as a botanist and biodiversity Conservationists without exploiting and destroying nature.
Inaugural function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mahadevakumar S., of BSI. Smt. Deepika Tilakrajan, JNRM moderated the whole programme. A total of 30 students of M. Sc. Botany were registered for this training program.
