Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 15: In a tragic incident, a huge and old mango tree fell on the house of a labourer residing in Ward No. 10 in South point, Sri Vijaya Puram and completely destroyed the house in the morning today.
According to information, today at around 11:00 am, a huge and old mango tree fell on an person’s house in Ward No. 10 in South point, Sri Vijaya Puram and thereby completely wrecked the house. Councillor of the area said that the house was standing under the mango tree and near to a Shiv Mandir there. Luckily there was no one in the house when the tree fell on the house, she further said.
Tahir, the victim of the accident was outside at work, his wife was also at work outside in other’s house while their three children, among whom one is a disabled, went to school, she said. Besides, the tree fell during the day, had it fallen at night, all of them would have lost their lives, the neighbours said.
The Fire Brigade team reached the accident site and removed the tree after cutting it in pieces and cleared the site, the Councillor said. However, since the house has been completely destroyed Tahir and his family have been rendered homeless and don’t have any place to take shelter, according to the Councillor of the area. The ward councillor hailed the Fire Brigade for their prompt action and at the same time she pleaded with the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Sri Vijaya Puram to extend possible ex gratia monetary help to the affected family.
She also requested the DC to consider providing the ill-fated family with some temporary shelter so that they may get accommodation in the days of adversity they are in. The concerned Circle Patwari, RI of the Tehsil Office, Sri Vijaya Puram reached the spot and took stock of the situation and the extent of the damage caused due to the tree falling on the house of Tahir.
The neighbours of the indigent family were seen coming forward and appealing to the administration and people for extending possible assistance to this distressed family who lost everything in the accident. The Councillor further appealed to the general public for extending their possible help to afflicted family.
