Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 07: As part of the celebration of 70th Wildlife Week-2024 from Oct. 2 to 8, 2024 by the Wildlife Division, Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration, a Nature Trail has been created at Jolly Bouy Island within Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandoor measuring a distance of 1.7 km for promoting eco-tourism activities. The Nature Trail was inaugurated by Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (ANI)-cum- Chief Wildlife Warden in the presence of other senior officers and staff of the Department of Environment and Forests on Oct.5, 2024.
The chief guest and other officers inspected the newly created Nature Trail and appreciated the efforts made in providing sufficient informative signages, benches and eco-huts etc. as tourist facilities. The informative signages provided depicts the status, their importance and the role being played in maintaining the ecosystem, which in turn disseminates various information to the nature lovers and layman, who would in turn carry the messages.
A Quiz competition was organized at Nature Park and Interpretation Centre, Haddo for the students of various colleges of A&N Islands viz. JNRM, Andaman Law College, Puducherry University, ANIMS & TGCE on Oct. 5, 2024. Similarly, as part of the celebration, ‘Prakriti Shantiniketan- Nature Class Room’ was inaugurated today by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (A&V), Shri Ravi Horo, IFS. Class Room session as well as competitions were organized for the students of various schools and prizes were distributed.
The Wildlife Week was celebrated during the 1st week of October.
