Port Blair, Mar 06: The Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh is going to conduct special meeting of the members tomorrow at Model School Auditorium at 5 P.M. The National Organising Secretary of the Akhil Bharteeya Shaikshik Mahasangh from Mainland Shri Mahendra Kapoor will deliver the key address. The State Secretary of the Association Shri Lokesh Kumar informed that some important issues related to the teaching community of the Islands will be discussed in the meeting. He said that the resolution so adopted in the meeting, will be submitted to the Administration for the redressal of the grievances. If necessary the issues will taken at the National Level by the Apex committee of the Association if the Administration fails to resolve them.
A lot has been regarding the implementation of the Right to Education Act in the Islands, but still there are so many aspects which have kept neglected. The RTE puts stress on providing the basic facilities like safe drinking water, toilets, play fields etc in each school, but the Department is seemed to be busy in other things, which is not of the children’s concern. The Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation System has been implemented but the Department has not taken any initiative to evaluate and review the system so far. The ground reality differs from Island to Island, and it must be reviewed keeping in mind the constraints, a teacher said. He said the entire Communication mechanism between the school and CBSE Board is made Internet based, but the fact remains that many schools of the outer Islands don’t have access to the Internet.
Another point of attraction in the tomorrow’s meeting would be the need of filling up of the vacant posts of different categories. There are posts which are kept vacant for the last many years. It’s been more than 2 years since the North and Middle Andaman District has come up, but still no Education Officer has been posted. Among the other points which will be discussed tomorrow are Exemption of Children Education Allowance, ISDA, Complete SCA and Transfer Allowance from the income Tax, Granting ISDA during Summer Vacation, Indiscriminate implementation of transfer policy for teachers, Headmasters, Vice Principals, Principals, DEO, EO and Assistant Directors, Choice posting on promotion for all the teaching staff due for retirement, Posting to Key posts should be strictly according to Seniority. Seniors must not be posted under juniors.and Restoration of all the 11 posts of Assistant Education officer (AEO) for effective and efficient School Administration in Islands.
