Port Blair, Aug. 27: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), GoI, New Delhi and A&N Administration is going to conduct the State Level Mock Exercise (SLME) -2024 on Earthquake & Tsunami in A&N Islands on 30.08.2024 to test Incident Response System (IRS), evaluate readiness for unexpected situations, etc. of A&N Islands by involving all Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs), Incident Responses Teams and communities.
In this regard, a Table Top Exercise (TTEx) is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Aug. 28) from 10 am to 1.30 pm under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary, A&N Administration in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Disaster Management for finalization of scenario for SLME-2024.
Meanwhile, the Director (DM), Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS has informed that the State Level Mock Exercise (SLME) -2024 on Earthquake & Tsunami is a crucial part of the on-going efforts to enhance the preparedness and coordination of emergency response teams. All residents and businesses have been urged to remain calm and carry on with their regular activities, as this is a planned drill with no real threat to public safety.
This Exercise may carry the following activities:
Increased Emergency Presence: On the day of the exercise, one may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles, including PCR Vehicles, Fire Tenders, ambulances, and other specialized units. Please be assured that these vehicles are part of the drill and are not responding to a real incident.
Simulated Scenarios: The exercise will involve staged incidents on Earthquake & Tsunami, such as simulated fires, medical emergencies, or other crisis situations and regularly blowing of Sirens and mock related announcement along with SMS. To maintain safety and authenticity, these scenarios will be closely prepared and finalized by the A&N Administration in coordination with NDMA and other stakeholders.
Location and Timing: The exercise will be held at various places and Islands of South Andaman, N&M Andaman and Nicobar Districts on 30.08.2024, starting at 09:00 am and conclude by 04:00 pm.
The general public have been asked not to be alarmed by the sights and sound associated with the exercise. This is a controlled drill, and all activities are being carried out under the supervision of professional trainers and coordinators. They have also been encouraged to continue their daily routine as normal. There is no need to take any special precautions or alter your plans due to this exercise.
To minimize disruption, people have been requested to avoid the exercise areas, if possible. Traffic delays may occur near the drill sites, patience and cooperation of general public have been sought in following any detours or instructions from traffic officers. In case of any unexpected changes or updates, the public will be notified through local news, social media, etc.
This mock exercise is a key part of community’s preparedness strategy.
