Port Blair, Aug 06: In observance of World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the Hope Foundation, under guidance of Cry a leading NGO dedicated to combating human trafficking, organized some comprehensive awareness programs aimed at educating the public and mobilizing community action against this global issue.
The events were held at brought together community leaders, law enforcement officials, social workers, teachers, students, and local residents. The program featured a series of informative sessions, panel discussions, and interactive workshops designed to shed light on the realities of human trafficking and empower attendees with the knowledge and tools to combat it. As know it is a matter of joy for us that there is no direct human trafficking in our Island. But at the same time it is very sad that there are cases of trafficking of our youth, especially girls, through social media.
Law enforcement officials from cyber crime dept and Police officials shared insights on the current state of human trafficking, like how the youth gets fooled through social media platforms which ended up with human trafficking and how we could implement effective strategies to support victims and prevent trafficking.
The program concluded with a community pledge, where attendees committed to being vigilant and proactive in the fight against human trafficking. This symbolic gesture reinforced the collective responsibility of individuals and communities in combating this crime.
Mrs. Fareeda Bibi Director of the Hope Foundation emphasized the significance of community involvement in the fight against trafficking: “Human trafficking is a violation of human dignity that demands urgent and sustained action. By raising awareness and empowering our communities, we can create a united front against this pervasive crime. Today’s program is a testament to our commitment to protect and support the most vulnerable among us.”
The Hope Foundation extends its gratitude to all participants, speakers, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. Both the organizations CRY and HOPE FOUNDATION remains steadfast in its mission to combat human trafficking through education, advocacy and support services.
