Port Blair, Jul 26: As a part of celebration of 75th Van Mahotsav-2024 with a theme of Ek Ped lagao Maa ke Naam, Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre organized a plantation programme at the Dhanikhari Experimental Garden cum Arboretum. The programme was initiated with a welcome address by Addl. Director & Regional Head, Dr. Lal Singh followed by the plantation of Cocos nucifera L. by Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair along with Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Ex-Principal Scientist, Dr. P.K. Singh, Head, Horticulture & Crop Improvement, Dr. Jaisunder, Head, Animal Science Division and Dr. Ajit Arun Waman, Sr. Scientist, Horticulture & Crop Improvement of ICAR- CIARI. On this occasion, Dr. Singh gifted a sapling of Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. ex G.Don) to Dr. Chakurkar. Dr. Singh briefed about the role of Experimental Garden of BSI on the conservation of the floral diversity of these Islands.
