Port Blair, Jul 21: As part of World Youth Skills Day 2024 celebration, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with Hope Foundation, Port Blair conducted Inclusive Sports Day aimed at empowering and showcasing the talents of disabled youths in the region.
The event, held at the CRC A&N Islands, Brookshabad, brought together young athletes with disabilities from various backgrounds to participate in a range of sporting and gaming activities like running, carom and soft ball throw etc, specially designed to accommodate their unique needs. The Inclusive Sports Day underscored the importance of providing equal opportunities for disabled youth to develop their skills, build self-confidence.
Mr. Dipankar Subba, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Mohanpura was the chief guest on the occasion while Mrs. Faridha, Secretary-cum- Director, Hope Foundation was the guest of honour. They emphasized on the significance of the event, stating that “Inclusive sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of young individuals with disabilities”.
Mrs. Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands delivered the key note address and also administered a pledge on ‘Swachta Pakwada’.
The event organized included wheelchair basketball, adaptive track and field events, and a unified relay race where disabled and non-disabled participants teamed up to promote inclusion and teamwork. The enthusiasm and determination of the parents and other participants were met with cheers and encouragement from the audience, creating an atmosphere of unity and support. In addition to the sporting events, the day also featured a session on various opportunities available in CRC A&N Islands for skill development of Divyangjan in A&N region by Mrs. Yogavathi Muthu, Special Educator-cum- Orientation & Mobility Instructor, CRC A&N Islands
Earlier, Mr. Biswajit Roy, Administrative Officer welcomed the gathering. About 74 divyangjan, parents and care takers participated in this event.
