Port Blair, Jul 21: On 20th July 2024 at around 2030 hrs, Andaman & Nicobar Police received information from Indian Coast Guard Head Quarters, that 03 fishermen are stranded on Nicholson Island (near Swaraj Dweep) due to grounding of their boat. Immediately information was transmitted to the senior officers and a combined Rescue Team consisting of personnel from Police Station Swaraj Dweep and Police Marine Force was formed.
The Rescue Team promptly departed in the middle of the night to search for the stranded fishermen, with the help of location shared by the Coast Guard, Control Room. As a result of pro-active efforts and night-time valiant Rescue operation, 03 fishermen of Port Blair were successfully rescued in the night, at around 11pm. The details of rescued fishermen are as below:
1. Mr. Ashok Dutta, aged 47, Haddo, Lillypur.
2. Vinod Kindo, aged 42, Ferrargunj.
3. Christopher Bara, aged 36 of Namunaghar.
It has been found that the fishermen were travelling from Port Blair in their fishing dinghy on 17.07.2024, when their dinghy got stuck on shore of Nicholson Island, due to inclement weather and rough swell. This damaged the fishing boat and caused significant leakage and therefore the fishermen got stranded at Nicholson Island, due to inclement weather and rough sea conditions.
The rescued fishermen were brought to Swaraj Dweep Island and extended necessary medical aid at PHC Swaraj Dweep. The efforts are now underway to salvage the damaged boat from the site of wreckage.
The prompt response and brave efforts of the Police team by putting their own lives at risk during the dark hours and inclement weather ensured safety and well-being of fishermen.

Director General of Police, ANI Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS applauded humanitarian the efforts of the Police Rescue team for their exemplary professionalism and fearlessness in rescuing the fishermen in the late Night Search Operation and announced for suitable reward to the brave police personnel.
