Hutbay, July 7:The Department of Agriculture, Little Andaman in collaboration with the Department of Industries conducted a ten days hands-on training on making of Bee Hive Boxes at the Industrial Training Center, Little Andaman from 26th June to 5th July, 2024. The training was imparted by the Department of Industries on preparation of bee hive boxes at their workshop aimed at equipping farmers and agriculture staff with essential skills to diversify their agricultural practices and enhance income generation through beekeeping. The programme was attended by six Department officials and four farmers.
In Little Andaman, there is a great potential and scope for Bee keeping /Apiculture, due to the favorable climatic condition. Hence, for promoting Apiculture, availability of bee hive boxes is the main challenge for the bee keepers/interested progressive farmers/entrepreneurs. Thus, this training will help the farmers to access their own requirement of bee hive boxes and to be self- reliant.
The farmers can avail the benefit of Scheme under National Horticulture Mission of High Value Agriculture-‘Pollination support through Bee Keeping’ by the Department of Agriculture.
