Port Blair, Jun 09: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A& N) proudly hosted a comprehensive awareness in hands with ITI, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dollygunj to celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) which is on May 16, 2024. The event aimed to promote digital accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities, aligning with the global mission of GAAD to ensure that every individual, regardless of ability, can participate fully in society.
The programme, held at the Multipurpose Hall, ITI, Dollygunj premises, saw enthusiastic participation from students of Information and Communication Technology System Maintenance & Stenography and Secretarial Assistant (Women), including faculties of ITI. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr.Venkatesh, Principal, ITI,Andaman & Nicobar Administration. In his opening address, he emphasized the importance of digital accessibility and the need for collective efforts to bridge the digital divide for persons with disabilities. Mrs. Sumithamol, Director,CRC A&N-Islands welcomed the gathering and highlighted the main objectives of the programme. .Miss.Yogavathi Muthu, Special Educator Cum Orientation and Mobility Instructor ,CRC conducted a session on Accessible Digital Content. Mrs.Saranyah, Rehabilitation Officer,CRC and Master. Laksat, 7th std a student volunteer performed an Awareness Natak on He excels with Barrier Free Environment to make the crowd empathize with persons with disabilities. Attendees engaged in interactive sessions where they shared their experiences on improving accessibility in their daily lives.
In the closing remarks, Mr. D.N.Choudri, Training Officer, ITI, A&N thanked all the participants for their active involvement and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusion. Awareness handout on Digital Accessibility has been circulated among the attendees and faculties. Totally 105 attendees were participated.
