Port Blair, May 27: The Superintendent of Police of N & M Andaman has issued a public notice concerning the safety of the bridge at Km 88.300 (B.D. Nallah) within the Jarawa Reserve Areas, which has sustained significant damage. The deck slab on the left-hand side (from JPP Jirkatang) has been compromised, prompting the barricading of the left carriageway. Consequently, traffic has been redirected to the right-hand side (half carriageway) of the bridge.
As per the notice, recent inspections have revealed cracks on the right-hand side deck slab of the bridge as well. To ensure the safety of road users and prevent potential incidents, the following precautions have been mandated:
Vehicle Weight Restriction:
The maximum weight per vehicle is restricted to 20 metric tons.
Heavy vehicles carrying construction materials or goods are limited to a load of 7-8 cubic meters, excluding the 10 metric tons weight of the unloaded truck.
Oil tankers and LPG cylinder carrying vehicles are also restricted to a load of 7-8 cubic meters, excluding the 10 metric tons weight of the unloaded truck.
Speed Limit:
Vehicles crossing the bridge must adhere to a speed limit of 10 km/h.
Single Vehicle Crossing:
Only one vehicle is allowed to cross the bridge at a time.
These measures are essential to ensure the continued safety of all road users. Compliance with these precautions is mandatory and will be strictly enforced.
