Port Blair, May 16: Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with Anand Paradise Theater organized a special movie show for Senior Citizens of Abbhyuday Complex, Old Age Home, Ferrargunj and Ullahs Home, Attam Pahad. The event aimed at providing the elderly with a fun and entertaining experience. A total of 12 Senior Citizens from both homes had attended the movie show.
The Movie, deliberate specifically for seniors, provided much-needed recreation and fun for the elders, many of whom are often stuck in the routines of their care homes. It gave them a rare chance to enjoy new stories and experiences, boosting their emotional and mental well-being. Activities like these can also help seniors reconnect with society; reducing their struggle with social isolation and making them feel more included.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare) expressed his gratitude to the owner of Anand Paradise Theater, Mr. K.P Anand for their support and contribution towards this program. He explained that social gatherings and shared experiences, like movie shows, can greatly improve seniors’ mental health, reduce feelings of loneliness, and foster a sense of community.
He also talked about future plans to make life better for our senior citizens. He urged the general public, organizations, and institutions to help the elderly and children in childcare institutions (CCIs) in any way they can. Visiting old age homes and CCIs to spend time with the residents can help break the cycle of isolation and loneliness they often experience.
Speaking on behalf of all the senior citizens present, Mr. Sudhir Bepari, Senior Citizen from Old Age Home, Ferrargunj shared her heartfelt appreciation to the owner of Anand Paradise Theater and the Directorate of Social Welfare for arranging the event and for their thoughtful initiative in organizing such engaging activities for them.
