Port Blair, Apr 15: Rongali Bihu is associated with the Assamese New Year and celebrated to welcome the Spring Season. The bihu festival across the Assamese communities is also connected with propitiation of Mother Nature and is rooted to agriculture and its fertility. The festival also represents youthful vigour, love and union. The Bihu celebration was a day-long programme organized by AAANI on 14th April, 2024 at MES Community Hall, Brichgunj. The Programme started with flag hoisting by Mr. Naba Kumar Bora, Ex-Service man followed by Swahid Tarpan (a tribute to the martyrs), tree plantation, colorful Bihu dance, traditional sports activities for women’s and children’s along with ethnic Assamese cuisines were the highlight of the event. Dr Poonam Arora, renowned hospitality entrepreneur of Andaman also attended the event as Chief Guest along with her mother. More than 50 Assamese families of Andaman had participated in the event.
