Port Blair, Apr 07: On 6th April, 2024, various activities were organized by the Nicobar District Police as part of the Systematic Voter’s Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP), the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India.
The personnel of Police Station Campbell Bay and the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) organized a voter awareness programme at the Mini Stadium, Campbell Bay. The event aimed to educate residents ahead of the Lok Sabha Election, with enthusiastic participation from both police and IRBn staff displaying placards and banners emphasizing the importance of voting. Youth engagement was prioritized, with attendees educated on the value of voting and encouraged them to spread further awareness. The programme emphasized collective action in fostering democratic engagement.
A friendly volleyball match was also organized by the Police Station, Teressa as part of the SVEEP between police and the local tribal villagers on the premises of police station. The voters were educated about their voting rights aimed at emphasizing the significance of voting for a healthy democracy and motivating the tribal villagers to participate in the upcoming general election by exercising their franchise on the day of polling i.e. April 19, 2024.
These initiatives are crucial in ensuring robust voter turnout and reflect a commitment to democratic values. The events serve as a testament to proactive efforts to strengthen democracy, with a reminder that power ultimately lies in the hands of the people.
