
Port Blair, Mar 24: As part of World TB Day-2024 observance, a State-level function was held in the Auditorium Tagore Government College of Education here yesterday. Mr. C. Arvind, Secretary (Health), A&N Administration was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, the Secretary (Health) exhorted the gathering to follow a healthy lifestyle by adopting meditation, exercise and a balanced diet to keep all diseases at bay. He distributed the certificates to the winners of the various competitions held on the occasion of World TB Day 2024.
The chief guest also launched the annual TB Report 2023 on the occasion. Dr. P. Lal, State TB Officer, A&N Islands gave a detailed presentation about the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of Tuberculosis and the various interventions being made under the National TB Elimination Programme as per the National Strategic Plan to eliminate Tuberculosis.
The adult BCG vaccination campaign was also launched officially during the function. Dr. Rohit, UNDP gave a brief presentation about the digital platforms TB-Win and U-Win and their application during the Adult BCG Vaccination. Adult BCG Vaccination shall be started in the districts of N&M Andaman and South Andaman from 30th March, 2024.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome song by the students of the School of Nursing, Port Blair. During the function, a TB Vijeta, Mr. Praveen Lakra, who was cured of TB, shared his experience before the gathering. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Keerthivasan, Microbiologist, NTEP.
