Port Blair, Mar 11: On 09th March 2024, International Women’s Day with the theme “Investing in women: Accelerate Progress” was celebrated at Andaman Nicobar State Coop. Union, Teylerabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Kuldeep Rai SharmaJi. The programme was jointly organized by ANSCU and ANSCB and was inaugurated with the lighting of a lamp by the dignitaries.
Mrs. Jyoti, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Sippighat was the main source of inspiration for the gathering. She has narrated her experiences to achieve the present status in the Society and advised the women folk to adopt good skills for betterment of the self and family. Mr. Swaran Singh, Director of the ANSCU spoke about the history of women welfare in Islands and their role for the socio-economic upliftment of their family in the Society.
Other speakers were Ms. Kamla, Mrs. Salma, Mrs. Elizabeth Mary, Mrs. Manju, and Mrs. Gayatri. They briefed about their struggle in life to reach a respectable position in the Society through registering SHGS and self employment.
Board of Directors of ANSCU, officials of NCUI, RGCTC and officials from Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank were present during the programme.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A & N State Coop. Union has mentioned about the role of women, towards the upliftment of women folk through SHG Groups. He advised the gathering to take care of their health which is hardly a women’s concern. He mentioned that in ANSCU, he will start a women health care unit to provide better health care to women groups.
Mr. Anant Rao, Vice- Chairman ANSCU, proposed vote of thanks and narrated beauty of the SHGs and Cooperatives and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Sumitra Kumari, CEI, ANŞCU.
