Port Blair, Mar 11: A group of qualified candidates for the post of labour under the Department of Environment and Forest in Andaman & Nicobar Constituency has expressed their dissatisfaction by threatening to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Addressing the issue, the candidates penned a letter to Mr. B. S. Jaglan, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer of the region.
The letter, signed by affected candidates, highlighted their frustration over the delay in receiving appointment letters despite being listed for various positions. They referred to selected lists published on November 30, 2023, February 5, 2024, and February 19, 2024, for various positions. Additionally, they pointed out an interim order from the Hon’ble Calcutta Court dated February 2, 2024, regarding appointments to 54 posts of Mazdoor under DFO Diglipur.
Expressing disappointment over their exclusion from the Largest Rozgar Mela of the Country held on February 12, 2024, the candidates highlighted their unsuccessful attempts to seek clarification from the department and the lack of support from political parties , other than few NGO and non-political organizations.
Consequently, the candidates, along with their adult family members, have taken a collective decision to boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha election until their appointment orders are served.
According to candidates copies of the letter also have been marked to various authorities, including the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, the Chief Election Commissioner, the Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Forest, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Island, the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Island, relevant department officials, and party leaders for necessary action and information.
