Port Blair, Feb 09: In anticipation of the upcoming visit of a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the third week of February 2024, strict security measures are being put in place in the South Andaman District. The District Magistrate, Veditha Reddy, IAS, issued Order No. 164 under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, to ensure the safety and security of the VVIP during their visit.
The order prohibits the assembly of five or more persons in public places from February 18th to February 24th, 2024, in the areas of Port Blair Tehsil and Swaraj Dweep. Any violation of this order will be dealt with strictly under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
However, certain exemptions are made for Executive Magistrates, Police Personnel, and other Public Servants on duty, as well as other officials involved in the arrangements for the VVIP visit.
The order, aimed at maintaining law and order and mitigating potential security risks, is enforced by the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and other officials during the specified period.
This order, which comes into force on February 18th, will remain effective until the return of the VVIP and applies to the entire area/jurisdiction of Port Blair Tehsil and Swaraj Dweep. It was issued on February 9th, 2024, by Veditha Reddy, IAS, District Magistrate of South Andaman District.
