Port Blair, Feb 09: In a proactive move to elevate awareness and encourage active participation in efficient waste management and water conservation, Shri Dilkhush Meena, Secretary PBMC, has launched various community awareness programs across different wards under the ‘Prabhat Phery’ initiative. Today’s initiative targeted Ward No. 2 & 3, focusing on educating residents about responsible garbage collection, segregation and management practices at both household and commercial levels. The SAT embarked to educate residents about responsible garbage collection, segregation and management practices at both household and commercial levels. The primary goal of the event was to engage the community in local garbage-related issues, emphasize optimal segregation practices and identify ‘Swachhta Stars’ who excel in trash segregation within the ward.
Under the comprehensive campaign, various activities are being executed to involve the community actively. House-to-house visits, community games, the establishment of ward mobilization committees, cleaning of Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and ward meetings are among the initiatives aimed at raising a sense of responsibility and collaboration within the community. Furthermore, PBMC plans to conduct ward meetings, providing a platform for residents to address and resolve their concerns promptly, thereby contributing to better community engagement.
Addressing the imminent challenges of the approaching summer season, the SAT also emphasized the critical need for water conservation. With an increasing demand and fixed water supply, sustainable growth and development hinge on responsible water usage. PBMC urges all citizens and commercial establishments to be mindful of their water consumption in the coming months, implementing simple measures such as turning off taps, limiting shower times and avoiding pre-rinsing dishes to contribute to the conservation of the city’s limited freshwater resources.
The Secretary, PBMC also urges every citizen and visitor of Port Blair to contribute to water conservation efforts and actively engage in the ongoing initiatives aimed at raising a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment.
