Port Blair, Feb 07: Like Mainland India, dangerous bike stunt mania has gripped a section of local youths. These youths could be seen practicing and performing these stunts almost everyday in the Corbyn’s Cove route. A few youths take immense pride by performing these stunts inside Bazaar Area, risking their own and others’ life.
In all most all cases these stunts, which are obviously illegal, are performed without helmet and while one person perform the stunt others shoot the stunt video and finally the videos are uploaded in Youtube.com for self glorification and fun.
Dozens and dozens of such dangerous stunt SMSes are also doing round among school and college boys and performing stunt has become a status symbol now among the youths.
Surprisingly, the police department is still clueless. When contacted the Mr. N Rasheed, the Dy. S.P (Traffic) said that the Traffic Department has no such information about dangerous stunts by school and college guys.
“It never happened infront of us. They might be doing when traffic Jawans are not there. Public must play a proactive role and should immediately inform the Police Control Room, if such incidents are noticed anywhere,” Mr N Rasheed added.
But he assured that if anyone is caught performing such dangerous act and risking innocent lives then the Police Department will take stern action.
Andaman Sheekha team has keenly observed atleast three such incidents for reporting. Most of these acts are carried out just after the Sinclair Bay View turning (towards Mazar) and near the Hornbill Nest Gate. These stunts are carried out at early morning hours are just before Sunset. After sunset some of these guys perform ‘Spark Trick’ in which they produce sparks on roads by dragging the foot stand with the road, while driving.
Hope instead of waiting for public complaint the Traffic Department will bring out some time and download videos from Youtube.com to atleast understand that the situation has already gone out of control.
