Port Blair, Jan 21: The ICDS Urban Project observed the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative on 20.01.2024, at Ward No. 23, Bird Line and at Dairy Farm Vivekananda Youth Club, Port Blair. “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” a flagship initiative of the Govt. of India launched in 2015, aims to prevent gender-based sex-selective elimination, ensuring the survival and protection of the girl child and promoting improved education outcomes. As part of this initiative, a sports event took place at Ward No. 23, Bird Line, Port Blair, with Chief Guest Mrs. Radhika Dheeraj, Councilor of Ward No. 23, and other dignitaries, including Mrs. Ruchi Ahuja, Social Worker, and Mrs. Zarina Bibi, CDPO (Urban Project), and Supervisors.
Mrs. Zarina Bibi, CDPO (Urban Project), welcomed the gathering, providing an overview of the program and the objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. The event included sports activities exclusively for females, such as the spoon race (Age group 11-15), 100 mtr Race (Age Group 15 Yrs & Above), Musical Chair, and Passing the Ball (for all age groups). A total of 42 adolescent girls actively participated in the sports events; about 35 villagers attended the program.
Simultaneously, similar events were organized at Vivekananda Youth Club Ground, Dairy Farm, Port Blair, where about 40 adolescent girls took part in the sports events. The program concluded with the announcement of winners and a vote of thanks by Mrs. Sulatha Samadar, Supervisor at Ward No. 23, Bird Line, and Mrs. Archana B. Nair, Supervisor at Dairy Farm, Port Blair, acknowledging the successful organization of the event.
