Diglipur, Dec. 11: In accordance with their proposed plan, the hoteliers, tour operators, and local residents of Swaraj Dweep held a dharna near jetty area of Swaraj Dweep.
According to information, Swaraj Dweep, an island of globetrotters is reeling under a number of problems like frequent power cuts, poor road conditions, inadequate health facilities, and concerns over the Ice Plant for the last couple of months. And it has reportedly adversely affected the tourism sector of the island. Tourism in the island is at stake owing to power outages for long hours while residents of Swaraj Dweep are plagued with poor road conditions, inadequate health facilities, etc they rued.
Troubled by these problems, the hoteliers, tour operators, and local residents of Swaraj Dweep took to the road and mounted the dharna today. They were seen standing with placards along both sides of the road and shouting, “Welcome to the island Sir, AC nahi chalega, wifi nahi chalega, TV nahi chalega, kutch nahi chalga, no power, no tower, no diesel, please support us sir, there is no power in the island”. “Local PRI members raised concerns with relevant departments time and again, yet, it yielded no fruitful result, situation hasn’t improved an inch, and hence this kind of protest is required to invite the attention of the Administration for redressal of these issues” opined the veterans of the island.
