Port Blair, Dec 10: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalats in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR Centre ‘PRAYAS’, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today. The Judicial Officers of this judgeship were present to mark the commencement of the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair, Mayabunder and Diglipur.
Out of the total 1083 cases, including 439 prelitigation BSNL recovery cases and 331 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat, out of which, 71 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 20 BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 71 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 2,68,50,057.61/- have been settled at Rs. 1,30,28,250/-, thus paving a benefit of 1,38,21,807.61/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs.1,00,400/- was realised on the spot. Disposing of 20 BSNL recovery cases , the involved amount of Rs. 3,21,150/- were settled at Rs. 1,70,500 thus paving a benefit of Rs. 1,50,650/- to the customers. Disposing of 297 Criminal Cases a sum of Rs. 15,500/- was realised as fine. 01 MACT case was settled at Rs. 2,00,000/-.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 80 petty cases were taken up, out of which, 60 cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 52,100/- was realised. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 12 pre-litigation cases were referred out of which 02 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 1,75,000/- and a sum of Rs. 165,000/- was realised on the spot. 40 petty cases were taken up and disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 22,300/ was realised.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Mr. Duri Venkat Srinivas, Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, Md. Mohibulla, Joint Civil Judge (Sr. Division), Port Blair, Mrs. Krishnakoli Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 1st Court, Port Blair and Mr. Debabrata Biswas, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair sitting with Mrs. Preeja Menon, Advocate, Mrs. Saumya Rajeev, Advocate, Ms. Pritha Mondal, Advocate and Ms. Meriadlin Tirkey, Advocate, Mr. K. Vijay Kumar, Social Entrepreneur, Mr. Sujit Thangachan, Social Worker, Mrs. Anuradha Lall, Social Worker and Mr. M.P. Abdul Rasheed, Social Worker. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Mr. Tarun Kumar Mondal, Chief Judicial Magistrate, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mrs. Banani Biswas, Advocate and Ms. G. Sandhya, Legal Advisor-cum-Probation Officer, District Child Protection Unit, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Mr. Subhajit Basu, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Barun Kumar Bepari, Advocate and Mr. Motilal Das, Retired Head Master, Diglipur.
