Swaraj Dweep, Dec 10: In a collective effort to address long-standing civic grievances, including frequent power cuts, poor road conditions, inadequate health facilities, and concerns over the Ice Plant, hoteliers, tour operators, and local residents have decided to stage a Dharna tomorrow in Swaraj Dweep.
The protesters assert that the persistent power outages not only affect the tourism industry but also disrupt daily life. Additionally, they highlight that other crucial issues have been neglected by the administration for an extended period.
While the duration of the Dharna is uncertain, it is scheduled to take place in Swaraj Dweep Bazaar. Notably, tourism activities will not be halted during the protest, ensuring minimal disruption to visitors. If there is no improvement in the situation, the agitators have indicated the possibility of escalating their protest in the coming days, employing stronger measures.
A PRI (Panchayati Raj Institution) member from Swaraj Dweep expressed disappointment, stating that local PRI members have consistently raised concerns with relevant departments, yet there has been minimal support from the administration.
Mr. Ajith Kumar Roy, the Pradhan of Govind Nagar Panchayat, outlined the primary demands of the public, which include the upgrading of the DG Set for power supply in Swaraj Dweep, road repair and maintenance, Proper Ice Plant facility, improved health facilities, the provision of additional parking facilities, and agricultural support.
