Hari Nagar, Middle Andaman, Nov 27: The residents of Hari Nagar Panchayat in the Billyground region are facing a severe crisis as the Village Road, stretching from Andaman Trunk Road to Pachu Gopal Das’s house, remains in a deplorable state allegedly for the past 25 years. Expressing deep concern, the Pradhan of Harinagar Panchayat, Mr. Manojit Halder, highlighted the negligence from the APWD, emphasizing the urgent need for repair.
The approximately 1-KM-long road, essential for the connectivity of people of the area, has deteriorated to the point of posing challenges for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire tenders. Avoidance by auto-rickshaws and medium-sized vehicles has left the local population inconvenienced and struggling due to the administration’s persistent neglect in road repair.
Mr. Halder revealed that, six months ago, he brought the issue to the attention of the Chief Secretary, who promptly directed APWD officials to address the problem. However, despite the directive, no significant action has been taken, leaving the road in a perilous condition. While appreciating the Chief Secretary’s empathy, Mr. Halder expressed disappointment in the working culture of the Andaman Public Works Department, resulting in prolonged suffering for the residents.
Taking matters into his own hands, Mr. Halder recently gathered necessary documents from various sources and submitted them to APWD officials to initiate the long-overdue repair work, after which assurances have been given by APWD officials to look into the matter.
In light of the persistent issues faced by the local population, Mr. Halder, on behalf of the people of the area, now demanded the personal intervention of the Chief Secretary to expedite the total repair process.
