
Port Blair, Nov 17: The Badminton Association of A&N Islands (BAANI) organised “Campbell Bay Badminton Championship-2023” from 14th to 16th November. The matches were played in the multipurpose hall of ALHW. Altogether 27 players participated in the tournament. In the finals held yesterday, in the Men’s Doubles Saathulingam and Sajeevan lost to Uday and Suranjan in straight sets 21-18, 21-18 while in Men’ Singles, Ronit defeated Suranjan 21-16, 21-15.
Mr. Abhishek Ghullia, Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay was the Chief Guest for the prize distribution ceremony and Mr. E S Rajesh Pramukh was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Rajkumar, EE, ALHW was also present. In his address to the gathering, Mr. Abhishek appreciated the efforts of BAANI in organising the tournament and its objective in encouraging the youth towards physical fitness through the game. He said that the efforts of BAANI are in tune with the Prime Minister’s mission of Fit India programme. He further added that sports and games offer a chance to the youth to keep themselves away from social evils and addictive practices. While giving away the trophies and certificates he congratulated the winners and encouraged all the participants to continue playing the game and assured to improve the facilities for badminton at Campbell Bay to minimize injuries during the game. Mr. Y Sajeevan, General Secretary, BAANI proposed the vote of thanks.
