

Port Blair, Nov 16: National Press Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and intellectual fervour at Hotel Ami Grace, Gurudwara Line, Port Blair, this evening. Joining the nationwide celebrations, local journalists in Andaman and Nicobar Islands organized a prominent event where media professionals converged to reflect on the challenges and advancements in the field.
The distinguished event saw Mr. Debayan Bhadury, Media and Communication Officer at PIB and RNU Head, Port Blair, as the chief guest. Journalists from various media houses gathered to participate in this thoughtful celebration.
The proceedings commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy, the editor of Andaman Sheekha Daily newspaper. Mr. Debayan Bhadury, in his role as the chief guest, shared his insights on the current state of media in the nation, future prospects, and the integration of technology in journalism. He expounded on the significance of embracing new technologies to ensure the survival of media in the face of evolving challenges.
Mr. Anadi Ranjan Biswas, the Editor of News Spotlight, delved into this year’s theme given by the Press Council of India – “Media in the era of Artificial Intelligence.” In his comprehensive address, Mr. Biswas explored the impact and implications of AI on the media landscape, shedding light on the challenges that lie ahead. The program concluded with a stimulating discussion on local media and various factors influencing it.
The event reached its culmination with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. K Ganeshan, Chief Editor of Andaman Express newspaper. Ms. Rupa Lal, Correspondent at Echo of India, skillfully coordinated the function.
Notably, around 20 journalists representing diverse media organizations actively participated in the event, showcasing the collaborative spirit and commitment of the local media community in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Most of the journalists present on the event had boycotted the National Press Day event of Administration protesting against step motherly attitude of Administration towards local media.
