Port Blair, Nov 01: ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman (CIARI) organized three days training programme on “Soil and water conservation measures” at Thoratang village under Gram Panchayat Swadeshnagar from 27th to 30th October, 2023 for practicing farmers and farm women. The training was inaugurated by Mrs. Shilmanti Kujur, Ex-Pradhan, Swadeshnagar. In her inaugural speech, she has expressed her happiness and urged the participants to adopt proper soil conservation measures technologies available with the research institutions for enhancing sustainable crop productivity in North and Middle Andaman district. Dr. V. Damodaran, Sr. Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Nimbudera highlighted about KVK mandates and focused the need for appropriate soil and water conservation measures to conserve the natural resources for sustainability production. Mr. Salman Khan, Branch Manager, SBI, Billiground and Mr. Samir Kumar Halder, Branch Manager, Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Billiground, also participated and appraised the trainees about registration and availing the benefit of Kisan Credit card and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana etc. Later during the technical session KVK resource persons covered related topics such as soil formation, Soils of North Andaman and its properties, water resources and their utilization, micro irrigation system, soil conservation through mechanical and biological methods etc. A total of 35 participants benefited from the training. The training was organized by Er. Manoj Kumar SMS Agril. Engg. under the supervision of Dr. V. Damodaran, Sr. Scientist & Head and overall guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
