Neil Island, Jan 27: A beach cleaning drive was held at Neil Island on 24th Jan 2013 at 7.00 am. The drive was initiated by Incharge Hawabill Nest Neil Island in coordination with Govt. Senior Secondary School Neil, Police Department, Forest Department and Gram Panchayat.
In this drive, the participants collected around 250 gunny bags of drifted plastic from Bharatpur beach. The cleaning activities will be continued once in a month to ensure that the Island becomes a plastic free zone.
It is learnt that the collected plastic will be transported to Port Blair for dumping and recycling etc.
With second such activity, the in-charge and staffs of Hawabill Nest, Neil Island have set an example for all the Islanders and the entire Administration.
It has also been learnt that the Incharge Hawabill nest has placed 12 eco friendly dustbins in all three beaches to ensure that he beaches of Neil Island remain litter free.
