
Port Blair, September 28: In a collaborative effort, a joint team comprising officials from the Forest Department and the Police successfully conducted a raid and confiscated a substantial number of illegal logs in Mayabunder Tehsil. Led by Forest officials from the Mobile Squad and officers from Mayabunder Police Station, the team seized approximately Two Semi Furnished King Size Bed of wooden logs from Mayabunder Bazar.
This recent seizure follows today 28 September morning based on intelligence inputs in a mobile squad of Mayabudner on following operation conducted by the Forest Department, Forest Mobile Squad team tried to intercept Mahindra Pickup Van asked to stop but tried driver didn’t stop fled away from the area, immediately information passed to Mayabunder Police Station on that Police joined the operation and joint team Police and forest chased the Mahindra Pickup and intercepted the Van near old Machis Factory Mayabunder, however driver did not pay heed to the warning by the cops to surrender and started running in Jungle area, following police team chased and caught one person namely Pratap Lakra 40 year private driver, where a substantial quantity of Padauk worth of fifty thousand pprox.. was confiscated.
Under the leadership of Forest Ranger Basudev Samader, the team from the Mobile Squad Mayabunder Range forest division, consisting of Forester TD Singh and Murugan Regular Mazdoor, joined forces with SI Dinesh Meena Mayabunder Police Station and Staff of Special Branch CID Mayabunder.
Illegal logging poses a serious threat to the environment, leading to deforestation, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss.
The collaborative actions undertaken by the Forest Department and with the help of Police has been lauded by public of the region.
