Port Blair, Jan 20: The INTUC President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has appraised the Lt Governor about those 300 Mazdoors of Forest Department who have already crossed 240 days of continuous services in the department and are in roll since last 15-20 years and most of them have crossed the age limit prescribed for fresh appointment to any other regular posts.
In his letter to the Administrator, Sharma has also informed that as per the provisions of Industrial dispute Act, 1946 and the prevailing procedures of the AN Administration the Mazdoor working on daily wages and those who have crossed 240 days of continuous service are entitled for 1/30th of pay at the minimum of pay scale of the regular post of mazdoors plus DA as they are doing same work which the regular mazdoors do.
Further to it, as per the recommendations of the 6th CPC the minimum educational qualification is 10th standard pass for the post of mazdoor, but those mazdoors working in the dept. of Environment and Forest, A &N Admn are serving prior to the approval of the 6th pay commission, hence they are entitled for exemption from the prescribed minimum qualification for appointment to the post of mazdoor on regular industrial establishment.
Hence, Sharma has requested the Administrator to examine cases of these appointments against the existing vacancy of about 300 posts of regular mazdoors in the department as onetime settlement policy and thus give justice to these poor workmen.
