Port Blair, Jan 17: The First Lady of these Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh today launched the ‘Ladies Special’ bus service exclusively for women commuters of the Islands. At a simple function held at Mohanpura Bus Terminus here this morning, the First Lady flagged off STS’s ladies special bus service which will not only make the journey of women commuters comfortable and safe, but will also cater to the transportation needs of working ladies during the rush office hours.
Aimed at providing safe and secure commuting to female passengers, the services of lady bus conductors available with the Transport department will be utilized to operate the ‘ladies-only’ bus. In the first instance, the department will operate the special bus service in two shifts between Bus Terminus and Garacharma TTI. The route connects Garacharma, Bathubasti, Dollygunj, B.Ed College, Boys School, Girls School, JNRM, G. B. Pant Hospital and Bus Terminus, Mohanpura.
Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others, the Director of Transport, Mr. G. L. Meena dwelt at length about the initiatives taken by the department to provide better and safe mode of passenger transport service to the people of the Islands.
Among others, the Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad (SA), Smt Abala Sammadar, Chairperson, SSWB, Smt Ratna Kannan, Smt Sneh Prakash and senior officers of the administration were present on the occasion.
