Port Blair, Jan 15: The Coast Guard Region, Andaman & Nicobar, has planned diverse activities as part of its 37th Raising Day celebrations. Under the gamut of Coast Guard week 2013, a Troops Get-together was organized for the Coast Guard officers, men, civilians and their families at Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology Auditorium, Port Blair on 12th Jan 2013. The event was attended by about 1350 Coast Guard Personnel and their families.
The event was graced by the presence of Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), as the Chief Guest. The event comprised of variety of entertainment program by artiste’s, from various states, as well as song and dance performance by local dance troupe. The chief Guest awarded trophies for Regional Musketry Championship, Best CG Sports unit and Best Coast Guard Sportsman for the year 2011-12.
The Chief Guest in his address emphasized on the achievements of the Coast Guard units in the region during the past year in activities like operations, where the CG aircraft and ships were instrumental in apprehension of poachers and saving many a life at sea braving adverse weather and treacherous seas, spreading awareness among the Islanders on the environment, pollution and forest conservation, achievement in sports. The chief guest also commended the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Organisation for being generous in their commitment to social causes. He further encouraged the CG personnel to keep up the good work and be more vigilant in the years ahead. He also thanked the families for their unflinching support to the service. The event culminated with a community dinner at the venue.
