Port Blair, Aug 27: The CITU has organized Victory Rally throughout Andaman & Nicobar Islands yesterday evening, on its great achievements of grant of 1/30th of pay to thousands of daily rated mazdoors from September, 2017 and Administration’s commitment to the Supreme Court on the regularization of 7520 daily rated mazdoors. At Port Blair, the procession which began from Delanipur park culminated in front of the Port Blair Municipal Council at Aberdeen Bazar after making a round of the important places of the Port Blair town. The procession was led by R. Surendran Pillai, President, BC Bhattacharjee and M. Boominathan, Vice Presidents, Shyamal Kolley, Treasurer and PK Khalid, Secretary of CITU State Committee. Hundreds of daily rated workers of Port Blair town and rural South Andaman participated in the procession. Addressing the participants on conclusion of the procession, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that the CITU and Unions have been conducting struggles for the last 30 years with the demand of 1/30th of pay plus DA to the daily rated mazdoors and regularization of services of DRMs.
Addressing the large gathering of workers, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee called upon the workers to strengthen the CITU in order to achieve various demands of the working class in the islands. He said that despite the strong opposition of the central government, the workers won the case in all the Courts. He said that thousands of daily rated mazdoors and their family members are celebrating this victory which was due to the continuous struggle conducted by the CITU in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. SP Kalairajan and Anand Rajan, Secretaries CITU State Committee, Bishwajit Das, General Secretary, RD Engineering Wing Employees Union and Mrs. Carmela Hembram of ASNVMS also addressed the gathering.
At Mayabunder, the procession was taken out at Diglipur bazaar in which a large number of workers of Mayabunder area participated. The procession was led by Muralidharan Pillai, President, CITU Mayabunder Zonal Committee, Javed Mohammed and Rajesh.
At Rangat, the huge procession taken out at Rangat Bazar was led by Projit Kumar Sarkar, President and Karuppaiah, Secretary, CITU Rangat Zonal Committee, Bhavanan Kritania (ASNVMS) and Sukumar Roy (RD Union). They also addressed the gathering. Hundreds of workers participated in the procession.
At Kadamtala, the Kadamtala-Baratang Zonal Committee of CITU organized the procession at Kadamtala bazar in which a large number of workers from various unions participated. Daniel Aint, Vice President, Shipra Bala, Secretary, CITU State Committee and Manoj Mondal (ASNVMS) led the procession and addressed the workers.
At Hut Bay, the workers from different unions took out a huge procession which was led by MA Kereem (STS Union) and Rajesh (ASNVMS).
At Katchal, the workers took out a procession which was led by Balmurugan.
At Campbell Bay, the procession was taken out at the bazaar in which a large number of workers from various departments participated. The procession was led by Dhandapani, CITU State Committee Member, Anil Kujur, Ramesh, Shiva, Nithin and Santhosh.
