Port Blair, August 24: A fire incident was reported from the jungle between Kakana and Pilpillow villages, located in the Kamorta Island, yesterday morning around 10:00 AM. The Captain of the area promptly informed both the Police Station and the Fire Control Room about the fire. However, due to the fire’s location deep within the jungle, responding to the incident proved to be challenging, sources said.
As per information gathered here, initially, the police and fire service team headed towards Pilpillow Junction by road, which was the nearest accessible point. From there, they discovered that the fire was situated around 10 to 12 kilometers away from the main road, deep within the jungle between Pilpillow and Kakana Village.
As per details, after assessing the situation, a team consisting of six police and fire service staff proceeded towards the fire site using a Gemini Boat on the sea route. After approximately an hour of travel, the team reached the location of the fire. After reaching the site they employed the beating method to extinguish the fire.
Due to the delay in receiving the information, the fire had already spread over an area of about 1.5 kilometers, affecting nearby grasses and bushes. Nevertheless, upon arrival, the combined efforts of the Police Team and firefighting personnel brought the situation under control within a few hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
