Port Blair, Aug 22: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder has requested the Administration for increasing the number of shipping trips from Port Blair to Mayabunder.
In addressing a letter to the Director, DSS, Mr. Rangalal Halder said that the existing Ship schedule between these two locations poses significant challenges, particularly during medical emergencies.
He stated that there are currently fewer scheduled trips of ships in a week from Port Blair to Mayabunder as the limited frequency of shipping services has led to various problems, particularly for the local residents who often find themselves in situations of medical emergencies and other important issues.
He has also highlighted that due to the deplorable condition of the National Highway 4 (NH 4) roads in North & Middle Andaman, it becomes risky for the commuters to travel in this roadways medium of transportation and hence, demands for regular Shipping Services.
He has further proposed an addition of at least three additional trips per week not only to alleviate the hardships faced by the residents but also to contribute significantly to ensure the safety and well-being of the local population, particularly during emergencies.
