Port Blair, Aug 20: The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) and ‘Red Ribbon Club’ (RRC) of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE) organized an orientation and capacity building workshop on prevention and control of HIV & AIDS for the youth of TGCE recently. The workshop was an initiative for enrolling members from 1st year in the ‘Red Ribbon Club’. The objective of the Club is to educate youth and encourage them to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles, give access to information on HIV/AIDS, and also educate them about voluntary blood donation and safe sexual behaviors. In all the colleges, such platforms are made available for free exchange of AIDS related discussions.
The workshop was organized under the leadership of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society. Dr. S.J. Mathew, Principal, TGCE also encouraged the youth of TGCE to participate in the RRC activities.
Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen, DD (IEC) & Mr. Kaushik Kumar Halder, AD (IEC) were the resource persons. The youth were given information on the objectives of RRC and its roles and responsibilities in prevention and control of HIV & AIDS, STI and were also informed about the HIV and AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017 through power point presentations and short videos. International Youth Day was also observed with the theme ‘Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World’ to raise awareness on the environment. Manjulata Rao, Asst. Professor, TGCE, Port Blair who is the Nodal Officer (RRC), coordinated the programme.
